Estimator (High End Residential) in Loughton

Overview

Clearfield are working with a privately owned medium sized regional Management Contractor / Residential Developer operating predominately in London. Due to continual growth and success, they are looking for a Project QS to join them on a permanent basis.

The Company:
They carry out a variety of building works not limited to but includes the following:
• High end residential and office renovations to a value of £3.5m.
• Structural alterations to extend, raise or generally create open spaces.
• Strip out and structural works.
• External repairs.
They work for a small number of high-net-worth PLC property companies in Central London and the variety of their works reflects the range of architecture that exists in Central London. They are an excellent business and they have been trading for over 30 years.

The Role:
The person we need to fulfil the role of Estimator needs to be working in a similar role carrying out that that reflects the works we do. The need to have an excellent knowledge of building at our level is vital to ensure the candidate can move seamlessly into the role.
Presently we do not have a bespoke software package that we prepare our tenders with, rather we use known rates built up on the basis of our known costs that we apply to measures of and then produce the values for each section. We have labour, material and plant costs that are expressed on an excel spread sheet that allows us to then create a budget for the works.
Some elements of pricing are all encompassing i.e. forming an opening through a wall and each section has to be built up elementally to achieve a lump sum with evidence of how this is arrived at.
In summary our method of estimating is more traditional that is commonly used but we would welcome someone introducing us to a software package. We presently have an accounting package produced by Redsky, we are making enquiries into the software that they can offer.
The role will also include Procurement, managing subcontractor/supplier prices to allow selection based on satisfying tender enquiries, preparing budgets to extract the required margins for each projects and also some quantity surveying work as capacity allows
