Prepare for Your Interview

Not making the necessary preparations for your interview is a terrible mistake and can make you look amateurish in the eyes of the interviewer. Taking the time to prepare can ensure that there are no nasty surprises. You can never know what questions are going to be asked by the interviewer, but there are a number of ways in which you can be sure that you are prepared to the best of your abilities.

Know your CV

You don’t need to take your own CV to an interview, in fact you shouldn’t take it at all. You will be expected to know your own work history and explain any gaps in your CV. It is always a good idea to read through your CV a number of times, making it far easier to answer questions related to your previous history and avoid any embarrassing missteps.

Read the Company Website

There may be other company literature available, but the website of a company is the best place to start. Get familiar with the company and it will be easier to understand their culture and values and where you might fit into the plan. Also, you might have some well informed questions as a result of your time searching through the site.

Read the Job Description

If you don’t understand the role that you will be undertaking, then it will be hard to answer and ask questions relating to it. You don’t want to be surprised by the questions asked because they do not relate to the role that you were expecting.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

This one is simple, don’t stay up the night before watching five more episodes of your latest favourite TV series. Take the chance to get an early night and wake up at your very best.

Don’t Be Late

The most important point on the list. Being late for an interview is a disaster, and one that interviewers will not quickly forgive (they have busy lives too). Find out in advance exactly where it is you are going, where you will park, how long it will take you to get there, and everything else you need to know to ensure that you have a stress-free journey and will get to your destination bang on time.

No one can predict how an interview will pan out, but if your preparation is on the money, you put yourself in the best possible position.
